Sfera: safe and resistent tempered glass

Since its inception in 1976 Sfera has been renowned for its prime quality tempered glass products, constant technological development, and flexibility in catering to the most diversified needs of its customers.

Tempered glass offers about six times more resistance than standard float glass because during the tempering process any surface flaws tend to be pressed closed by the retained compressive forces, while the core layer remains relatively free of defects which could cause a crack to begin.

The tempering process is carried out by placing the glass (previously cut and processed) inside a furnace that takes it to a temperature of 640 degrees Celsius. At that point the glass is cooled rapidly with forced air drafts, whereby the outer layers of the glass undergo a sudden temperature drop that hardens the glass significantly.

The inner portion instead withholds the heat for a short time thus inducing compressive stresses in the surface of the glass balanced by tensile stresses in the body of the glass.

The tempering process results in glass with increased strength, which, in the event of accidental breakage, shatters into minute fragments that are harmless if they come into contact with human skin. This essential safety feature makes the glass ideal for areas that entail constant human interaction such as shower boxes, extraction hoods, home furnishing items and lighting fixtures as well as parapet panels, car elements, doors.

Sfera creates customized tempered or stratified glass products offering excellent price-quality ratio thanks to its highly advanced production lines, which are designed and constructed inside the company in order to satisfy the most demanding and diversified needs.

Sfera’s advanced technological know-how means that its products have zero mould or tong marks, zero optical distortion, and extremely low tolerances for radius of curvature. The high safety level of Sfera tempered glass is guaranteed by its full compliance with UNI EN 12150-1 standards. The quality is ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Sfera is highly focused on safety regulations. Our glass products can come into contact with foodstuffs, in compliance with Ministerial Decree 21/03/1973, as well as with the paints used, in compliance with the Directive ROHS 2011/65/EU.

If to all this we add an in-house design department at your disposal, special care taken with packing, and the company’s convenient location near the autostrada roadway exit, you may readily appreciate why Sfera is your ideal partner for the processing of tempered glass.
